Moviegoers were clearly in the mood to spend their money on some blood-rushing suspense this past weekend, as the 4 of the 5 highest grossing movies were of the action genre. We saw a clear shift in top titles, as Pitch Perfect 2 and Mad Max: Fury Road joined Avengers: Age of Ultron, Hot Pursuit and Furious 7 as Hollywood’s hottest flicks. And with both box office revenue and social engagement up 52.9% and 19.2% respectively from last weekend, we suspect there were a few extra high-fives among studio executives this week.
